We're Open!

There have been a lot of paint brushes and rollers slain this week but we are delighted to announce that we are open once more and ready for what promises to be our most exciting season yet.

Surf Academy Manager Ian (Gab to you and I) has been working his fingers to the bone this week so that when we throw open the doors tomorrow we will prepared for anything.

So what’s new this year?

Firstly we are delighted to announce that we will be stocking Quiksilver wetsuits to compliment the excellent range of Gul neoprene that we already sell. Sure, they may not sponsor 11 time world champ Kelly Slater but they’ve still got Dane Reynolds on the books. And he ain’t bad.

Next up we have got an entire new batch of Gul 4/3 wetsuits for our hire fleets. That’s 150 wetsuits in 33 boxes that we have been unpacking in between slinging more paint at the walls and ceiling. And floor.

We will also be adding some Starboard and Red Paddle Co SUP’s to our hire fleet this year. Come on down a have a go on one in the next month or so. They should be arriving in the next week and they are amazing to build up you fitness and core strength as well as being incredible fun. You could even get yourself a SUP lesson from May onwards.

This time of year is great to get one of our Membership packages. For just £175, the same price as a course of ten lessons, you could have a season of unlimited surf lessons and surf hire. This is incredible value for money when you consider we have over 360 lessons scheduled for the coming season.

Anyway, you’ve heard enough of me waffling on. Get down to Surf Academy and get in the waves. We open from 10am to 6pm seven days a week.

See you in the water.

Snow

The surf has taken a bit of a turn for the worse since we began 2013. There has been plenty on swell but not a lot of quality.
You may have read that 100 ft high waves have been ridden in Portugal. Mainland Europe has had an epic winter of surf so although we are missing out at least someone is getting plenty of surf. As well as great surf they are also enjoying some good snow in the Alps so it seemed like a good year to dust off the snowboards and hit the piste.

GAS Hurley No Pro

The 18th annual No Pro surfing event began in perfect overhead surf and under clear blue skies this Saturday 15th of September at Gwithian Beach. While the weather slowly deteriorated as the day went on the surfing standard stayed incredibly high throughout.
This event is unique in that only non-sponsored surfers are allowed to compete for the top prize making this a great day for the grassroots competitors in the sport.
